Practice Ground Range Bays
Another first for Haddington?

Diary Event

Your committee has been looking into the possibility of creating all weather, covered practice bays on the existing practice ground. These would be located on the left hand side of the ground looking from the Clubhouse end, and would consist of 4 covered bays with 2 outside bays all using mats over a concrete plinth. If you log onto it will give you a good idea of what the finished project will look like. The location will still allow for a short game practice area on the right side of the ground.
There are both advantages and disadvantages in making this change but we feel that the advantages far outweigh the disadvantages. Both can be summarised as follows.
. The practice ground will be able to accommodate more people
. The Range Bays will be open to the public thereby exposing more people to the Club and its facilities and hopefully attracting more members as a result.
. The Clubhouse facilities, including the shop, will be used by more people, again with the possibility of attracting more potential members as well as visitors
. Members of other Clubs in East Lothian may be attracted to the benefits of using the facility and ultimately Haddington membership.
. Our junior coaching programme will me made easier to manage and be less likely to be disrupted because of the weather.
. Forthcoming programmes such as 'Get into Golf' can be managed in an organised environment
. Visitors as well as members can be encouraged to warm up before their round.
. Visiting parties can be offered use of the warm up facility as part of their package
. Last, but by no means least, this could be a useful and welcome source of income for the Club
. The practice ground will no longer be free to members, although members will of course get a preferential price for baskets of balls.
. In order not to burden the green keeping staff with extra work there would have to be a rota set up with volunteers, picking up, washing and filling the ball dispenser with balls on a daily basis.

It is very important that we receive feedback on this initiative from you the members. Although a great deal of research and thought has gone into the project already, we will not pursue this without the support of the members. There will be the opportunity in the near future to discuss this at a special meeting of members but in the meantime please indicate your support or otherwise by email to the office, or directly to Drew Ramsay, who is co-ordinating this project, at if you so wish.
